Here’s an image I designed to be the banner on extreme42.com. Okay, I am not an artist, I know. But, despite that brutal reality, I think this banner came out kind of cool. And, I also really like how I came about it.
I started with a quick sketch on my Droid Bionic, using the application Autodesk SketchBook Mobile. To the right, the sketch I came up with using my fat index finger on my little touch screen. From there I took the sketch into GIMP. With GIMP I copied and pasted the five audience people into a complete row. Once I had a complete row I colored in each, and added a few random ties here and there. Then I copied each row, flipping each about a vertical axis. Each row was its own layer, the most forward being on the top of the stack, and the back row on the bottom of the stack. I then gave the entire audience a little blur to give the effect of depth of field. Finally I added an opaque layer having a black to transparent gradient, adding more to the depth of field effect. The wooden stage floor is take from a real hard wood floor photo I took from Google images.
